This project, completed in February 2025, is a cinematic interpretation of Ophelia by John Everett Millais (1851–1852).

The short film retraces the moments leading up to the scene immortalized by Millais. Its rounded frame echoes that of Millais’ painting, creating the impression of being immersed in the artwork. Furthermore, the short film references Shakespeare’s Hamlet through a sound design that repeatedly features excerpts from the Get thee to a nunnery monologue.
Beyond a mere cinematic transposition of the painting, this project offers an intimate reinterpretation of the works of Millais and Shakespeare. The short film remains grounded in reality until the protagonist, haunted by Ophelia, steps into the forest—and thus into the painting. As she advances inexorably toward this scene, she digs her own grave. Through this elusive obsession, the film explores the theme of madness, adopting a darker tone than the painting, particularly in its aesthetic approach.
